CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) – And what it means for you as a driver:-
You drive a truck (3.5 tonnes or over) and are a C, C1, CE, C1E licence holder,
You drive a coach or minibus (9 seats or over or over) and are a D, D1, DE, D1E licence holder,
- you need to engage with CPC as you will have to comply with the training requirements in order to maintain your ability to drive commercially.
Designed to maintain high driving standards across Europe, CPC is designed to ensure professional drivers undertake a continuous programme of periodic training.
All affected drivers are required to complete 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years.
When Does it Start?
Bus & Coach Drivers – If you gained your vocational licence prior to 10 September 2008, you will need to have completed your 35 hours’ training prior to 9 September 2013 if you want to continue to drive professionally beyond that date.
Truck Drivers - If you gained your vocational license prior to 10 September 2009, you will need to have completed your 35 hours’ training prior to 9 September 2014 if you want to continue to drive professionally beyond that date.
New Drivers – CPC kicks in from the date you gain your qualification.
